shore to get in a water taxi. Apparently Mazatlan has the largest shrimp fleet. Boy did it
smell bad! They made everybody put on a life jacket for the ride across the bay. They
took us to Stone Island.
Our ship, Stone Island, and Mazatlan's shrimp fleet
On the water taxi, me and my horse, and Dave
We really enjoyed horseback riding. Though I had to laugh at my horse. He didn't seem to
want to listen to me at all. If a horse in front of me sped up then mine would. But as soon
as I would catch up with the group he would stop! Oh well. Dave had a great horse. He
was able to canter and gallop!
Us in a grove of coconut trees, Dave galloping in the ocean, and me slowly following!
After riding we headed to a little beach front restaurant. We got some iced lemonades
(which were delicious) and then went swimming! We practiced snorkeling for one of our
other shore excursions. A coworker of Dave's let us borrow some of his gear which also
included a waterproof bag for our camera. It took us a while to figure out how to hold the
camera and bag to eliminate most of the distortion! In the meantime we got some funny
pictures!
Me and my yummy lemonade all gone, before getting wet, and then me trying not to freak out!
We had a great day in Mazatlan. Mid afternoon we headed back to the ship to shower and
get ready for dinner. I enjoyed the sun and was surprisingly not very sunburned. Though
Dave didn't far too well from the horseback ride. Turns out that in Mexico their saddles are
made of wood! And there's no cushion. Apparently I have plenty of my own and was just
fine. Dave on the other hand had welts and lost layers of skin along his tail bone. Sorry honey.
